A Clarification

Before I get to far into this, and the haters start hating.... I would like to make it clear that my use of the word punk is a loose-y goose-y use.  In this context I am using it as a term of endearment for anyone who chooses to stray from the beaten path. Anyone with a rebellious spirit.  I don't care if you are goth, punk, scene, emo, a cowboy, transgender, a martian, or scariest of all... a normal person. You are all welcome here. If you want to start throwing around the P word [poser is the word in question] just make sure you are making sure you aren't talking about yourself.

How to not post anything interesting.

Oh hello there, It seems you have caught me being lazy.

Well not actually lazy, I had planned to post some job getting tips for the tattooed, pierced, funny haired, bad attitude ridden semi-adult today, but I decided I wanted to put a little more work into it and give you all some really really good tips. So today I am going to start researching and I think I will post a job how to on Monday.

Today though, I have a mission for you all. I would like to know what YOU would like to see here on the practical punk. While The Practical Punk is in its infancy I really would like it to become reader driven so the post are relevant to you, my readers. I've had some very positive reviews in the past two days and I'd like to continue to get such reviews as we go on.

I also would like to invite anyone who has something to contribute to get a hold of me. I am rather new to blogging and I need all the help I can get.

Leave me a comment or email me at hotaru.kibou@gmail.com

How to destroy an oil stain

So last night you decided to cook something in oil/grease, or maybe you had some deliciously greasy pizza from the joint down the street... You're taste buds were joyful, but your shirt not so much?

Oil /grease stains can make a good shirt look terrible, and not even in a cool, grungy kind of way. BUT fear not fellow punk, even though they are tricky, oil stains do come out.

Here's what you need.... corn starch, and iron, and an ironing board[or any flat heat resistant surface should so]

Step one: Dont panic, and DO NOT wash that shirt.

Step two: Lay the clothing flat stain facing up.

Step 3: Sprinkle some corn starch onto the stain
I POURED rather than sprinkled... you wont need that much.
Step 4: While your iron is heating up, turn the shirt inside out.

Step 5: Iron until the stain starts to disappear. Be careful not to burn the fabric.

Step 6: Hand wash the shirt in cool water and let it air dry. If the stain is still visible you may have to repeat steps 1-6.

Step 7: Enjoy your shirt until you spill something else on it you messy messy punk.

Fiesta Black Bean Bugers

Alright so tonight I want to give a shout out to my friend Brandon. His vegan black bean burgers were the inspiration for this post. You can check all his awesome recipes out, and get the full recipe sans the extra's I threw in at his blog: http://freeloafing.blogspot.com/

Ok, so the base ingredients for this are canned black beans and flour, but I threw in some green chillies and corn for some extra pzazz.

So step one for me was to turn on some music to cook too. My choice was Social Distortion.
Once you have your music on you can proceed to step two! Getting Down to business.

Ok so you want to open up that can of black beans and strain them. Then, if you have a food processor, use that to go to town on those babies.... if you dont have a food processor, or a blender, or anything of the sort[like me].... start mashing 'um up with a fork, or, extra points if you do this, your hands.

When I was done mashing mine was kind of a moist, thin paste with some whole beans left for texture. I hadn't drained the beans well enough, but when I got to the flour I just added a little extra for thickness.
After that I added some canned green chilies. I only added one, I didn't want them to be over powering.
The chili I added was decent sized. I minced it up and it seemed to go a long way.

Next I added some corn, I didn't measure the amount. I would say about half a cup should do ya.
Seasonings came next. I added some garlic, cayenne pepper, and a sea salt. I couldn't find my chili powder or my cumin... Shame.

It was finally time for flour. Because of my lack of drainage with the beans, I  didn't add a set amount. I just kept adding flour until my goop was a little thicker than re-fried beans. I unfourtunatly only had plain white flour, so thats what I used. After I mixed it all up I stuck it in my fridge to chill for about 2 hours, I don't think it needed this long buuuut it was still pretty early and I wanted to share with my mum.

When I took is out it was sort of the consistency of sticky cookie dough. I floured my hands while I was forming and flouring the patties to make it a little less messy.
I fried the burger in olive oil, until it was crispy on the outside  [burning myself and oiling my shirt in the process]
Lastly I topped the burger with sun dried tomato and enchilada sauce. And thats it, voila.

Once again I'd like to thank Brandon for the wonderful ideas and the delicious food he posts on his blog. Def check it out.

P.S. Tomorrow I'll post a how to on how to get oil stains out of your shirt.... just in case you're as messy as I am.
